Al Bawaba competition

Al-Oula is organizing a competition to build a gate to one of its projects in Dammam
Within its efforts to achieve singularity in providing unique residential environments, Al-Oula Development organized a constructional competition to design the gate of one of its development projects in Dammam region in order to bring up creative, distinguished design ideals for the gate, to welcome the residents and visitors to the city.
The competition includes two categories, one for the practicing engineers and another for the engineering students in the Saudi universities.
In selecting the winning designs in the competition, the company considered the extent of their consistency with the concepts related to its role in the modern era such as visual elements distinguishing the place and expressing the time, in addition to the provision of the celebration element as a key element that conveys a sense of welcome and a special visual picture.
The idea of competition was inspired from the spread of gates that distinguished the ancient Arab and Islamic cities. And when they became numerous, then specifications and standards specific to the gates were elaborated.
These gates were built as key elements for defense and security and also to illustrate symbols representing the strength and stability of the State. The gates continued to exist in modern eras as they become more inclusive of creativity but lost their defensive function.
